(Er…no it isn’t…)

There is a meme circulating in cyberspace that SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is dead. It’s ceased to be. It’s shuffled off its mortal coil.

Well it’s not and it hasn’t.

It’s not even resting.

It’s alive, it’s well and it’s kicking.

But it has changed.

Google Rules!

Without wishing to cast aspersions on any other search engine – others are available – the inescapable fact remains that Google is King. And what Google says goes.

It was with the inception of Google Panda, waaaay back in 2011, that the sands upon which the edifice of SEO was built shifted dramatically. And the numerous updates and refinements that followed have left many a web pro and many a web owner scratching their heads wondering what to do for the best.

Gone are the days when you could climb to the top of SERPS just through the tactic of peppering your site with multiple keywords and dubious back links.

Content is Key

Now…what Google craves, demands and is unmistakably gagging for is content that provides “additional value” to the web.

What does that even mean, eh?

Well, it means producing original, well-crafted, high quality content that people actually want to read and, even better, share with others.

But, but, but, that sounds like it might really be quite hard.

You’re not wrong my friend. It requires effort, blood, sweat and tears because there ain’t no shortcuts anymore.

And what has caught many a prodigiously talented and effective SEO agency a little off guard is that they now need this desperately old-fashioned, slightly moth-eaten old thing called “A WRITER”.

Copy Writer

Not just any old writer either, but a writer who can produce the kind of content that will seduce the search engine crawlers.

Of course, there are plenty of other actions you can take to ensure that your website’s SEO is up to snuff.

For instance:

  • Ensure the site’s code is well-written and conforms to best practices
  • Check that the loading is as fast as it can be. Folks are notoriously impatient when browsing. (I know I am.)
  • Be social. Share stuff, like stuff, make sure you’ve got a proactive presence out in the social media world. Make chums out of your commenters.
  • Share links that are relevant and meaningful. (But don’t share links just for the sake of it. That Google Panda gonna slap your wrists if you do.)
  • Make your permalinks pretty and your URLs as cute as a button.
  • Optimise, optimise, optimise
  • Use the tools that Google kindly gives you for free. Helpful aren’t they?

But ultimately, it’s the content that makes all the difference.

Now, if all that sounds like it might be a bit of a chore, a hoopla and a fandango, then you can leave it all to us. Here at IT Planning we’re paragons of virtue when it comes to ensuring the websites we create and look after are like honey to Google’s bee.

We even have a grizzled old writer here – he mumbles to himself a lot and there are often crumbs in his beard – but he does produce outstanding, SEO-friendly copy.

So if you need to give your SEO a boost and positively supercharge your online presence – well, you know where we are.

And if you’ve got any tips, hints, anecdotes you feel you want to share, then do please feel free. We too like to make chums with our commenters.
